Man killed in hit -and-run crash
A 21-YEAR-OLD man of Kandemba compound in Solwezi has died after he was struck in a hit-and-run road crash yesterday.
North Western Province commissioner of police Hudson Namachila said the incident occurred yesterday around 18:30 at Teen Mission on the Solwezi-Mutanda road and named the victim as Willy Shindano.
He said the accident happened when the victim was crossing the road. "The victim sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot," Mr Namachila said.
Mr Namachila explained that the driver who was still at large was reportedly driving a truck belonging to BHL Company.
The body of the deceased is in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmodern, said Mr Namachila.
"However, investigations have been launched and if found, the driver will be charged for causing death by dangerous driving," he added.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man of Humphrey Mulemba Villa Park has died after he reportedly fell off a moving vehicle.
Mr Namachila said the incident occurred between 23:30 hours on Monday and 06:00 hours yesterday along the Mutanda -Kasempa road at Matebo area and named the deceased as Dickson Shamenda.
"The victim sustained multiple fatal head injuries and died on the spot while the body has been taken to Solwezi General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmodern," he said. And about five people have escaped unhurt after their vehicles were involved in an accident at Solwezi Bridge yesterday a situation that led to a traffic jam that lasted for over 4 hours. Mr Namachila said the accident happened when Lackson Mwanza, 40, of Ndeke compound in Ndola lost control of a Sino truck registration number BCA 5103 he was driving and hit into a Toyota Passo registration number ATB 3317 being driven by Clive Mboyonga. The truck belongs to Dangote Cement.
He said in the process Mboyonga’s truck also hit into an Isuzu pick up registration number ABJ 7025 belonging to the Road Development Agency driven by Eddy Mumbi.
The Isuzu Mumbi was driving in turn hit into a Toyota Coaster registration number ACR 5898 and later hit into another Sino truck registration number BCA 5103 which also belongs to Dangote cement.
