DEC NABS DUO WITH CANNABIS
TWO people found with 58 packets of compressed cannabis concealed in five living room stools have been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo identified the duo as Robert Chipusa Kaoma, 35, a driver of house 61/1, Chawama township in Lusaka, and Victor Musowoyo, 48, also a driver of the same abode.
Ms Katongo said the two were apprehended at Kazungula border as they were coming from South Africa.
She said a Mercedes-Benz containerised truck in which the suspects were travelling had been seized by DEC and the duo would appear in court soon.
Earlier, sources security agencies at Kazungula Border Post in
on Tuesday afternoon intercepted a truck with drugs which were being smuggled into the country.
The team working with a sniffing dog from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks intercepted the truck registration number AJD 9221 which was laden with drugs.
The sources said two people including the driver of the truck had since been arrested and handed over to the Drug Enforcement Commission for further investigations.
They said balls of drugs were wrapped in brown plastics and concealed in home use stools which were being imported from South Africa into Zambia through Kasane and Kazungula Border Post in Botswana and Zambia, respectively.
"We carried out an operation this afternoon in which we intercepted a Zambian truck registra- tion number AJD 9221 which was coming from South Africa into Zambia through the Kazungula border post.
"The truck was carrying home use stools in which were the boles of drugs concealed inside... After a search, we discovered 50 boles of white powder stuff wrapped in brown plastics," one source said.
