Two-faced civil society carpeted

…Kamba says they are displaying double standards with forked tongues

- By NATION REPORTER

SOME civil society organisations (CSOs) in Zambia are displaying double standards on the Kapoko Judgement to attract funding from their international financiers, former Lusaka Province youth chairperson Kennedy Kamba has charged Mr Kamba said the same CSOs were working with some disgruntled politicians to twist facts on the Kapoko judgment when they were comparing it to the contempt case of Bishop John Mambo before the Supreme Court. In a statement yesterday, Mr Kamba revealed that the same people always organised workshops in luxurious hotels while pretending that they were concerned about the underprivileged. He said the two-faced civil society organisations were deliberately misleading themselves to push the envelope and give themselves some modicum of credibility and viability in the eyes of their donors. “A number of civil society organisations have also got their facts twisted in their efforts to place comments on the Kapoko Judgement in the same basket as Bishop John Mambo’s contempt court case, “They are deliberately misleading themselves to push the envelope and give themselves some modicum of credibility and viability in the eyes of their donors. They drive fancy cars, live the life of riley and spend days on end looking for something to do to attract funding from outside Zambia” Mr Kamba said. Mr Kamba explained that under qualified privilege, there was nothing criminal to comment on a judgment after it has been passed. He recalled how the CSOs remained silent when UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema innumerably and scurrilously attacked the Judiciary. “Where were the civil society organisations hiding when Hichilema consistently made a sport of tearing down the judiciary, undressing judges of the Constitutional Court labelling them corrupt in all manner of colorful adjectives?” Mr Kamba asked. He said it was disappointing that the CSOs were thunderously quiet when Mr Hakainde viciously assaulted the personalities of judges Annie Sitali, Palan Mulonda and Mungeni Mulenga labelling them corrupt except for Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) that put him in his place. “Where were they during the frequent times Hichilema verbally brutalized Judge Chitabo – a judge who in more recent times has not been spared by the corrosive tongue of the UPND leader? What a two-faced lot they are! - displaying double standards with forked tongues!” Mr Kamba said. He challenged the ‘uncivil’ society to respond to the questions PF media director Sunday Chanda raised in his article regarding the Kapoko judgement.
