MOTHER DISOWNS THIEVING DAUGHTER
A LUSAKA woman yesterday disowned her 17-year-old daughter who is charged for housebreaking and theft, contrary to Section 301(a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Grace Mudenda told Principal Resident Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile that she feared for her life because of her daughter Wendy’s criminal activities.
This was after complainant Theresa Ngalalika, 35, testified in the case.
“My daughter has really troubled me and I am tired of her. What the complainant has said is true. My daughter doesn’t stay at home and people will end up killing me because of her behaviour,” Ms. Mudenda said.
Particulars of offence are that on July 5, 2018 with intent to steal, Wendy, of Misisi compound, broke into Ms. Ngalalika’s house in Chawama and stole one glass table and K1, 400 cash, altogether valued at K2, 400, the property of Ms. Ngalalika.
Ms. Ngalalika said on the material day she was at Cheers Mall where she works as an accountant when she received a phone call from her daughter, informing her that someone had broken into the house and stolen something.
“My daughter started calling me around 15:00 hours but I could not pick her calls because we are not allowed to have phones while working. When I called back she informed that the house had been broken into.
“I found that clothes had been scattered in the bedroom and the money was missing. I reported to Chawama police station where I was told that there was a girl who was taken there after she was apprehended for this offence,” Ms. Ngalalika said.
She said at the police she learnt that Wendy used a wheel spanner to break the lock because the wheel spanner dropped from her bra when a mob descended on her. She added that Wendy dropped the glass table as she was being chased. And a court official said this was the third time Wendy was appearing before the court on different offences of a similar nature. The source said Wendy had given a false name to the police as Agnes Mwanza but the indictment was amended after court officials identified her as a third offender. Trial continues on August 23, 2018.
