DRAW UP LUANO STRATEGIC PLAN - DC

- By NATION REPORTER

GOVERNMENT departments should draw up a district strategic development plan for the sustainable development of the newly created Luano district.

Addressing a District Development Coordinating Committee ( DDCC) meeting held in Luano on Tuesday, District Commissioner Christopher Chibuye urged heads of Government departments in the area to quickly formulate the district development plan to chart the path for the development of the district.

Mr Chibuye said there was urgent need for the district to come up with the district development plan of action for sustainable development of the area.

The plan of action would guide the development agenda and on how to come with a desirable township in the district, Mr Chibuye said.

He said the district strategic plan would also help in implementing the 7th National Development Plan (7NDP).

Meanwhile, Mr Chibuye implored Government workers to be time conscious and practice time management for effective service delivery.

Meanwhile, the Matuku community in Mkushi bemoaned lack of ZESCO power at Government institutions in the area.

Speaking in an interview, former Matuku primary school Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman Shadrick Kaputula said lack of electricity at Matuku health centre and at the primary school adversely affected their operations. In 2016, the community, through CDF, applied for funding of the project and ZESCO issued a quotation to light up the health centre and the school but nothing tangible had been done, he said He also said the school faced challenges in providing Information Communication and Technology (ICT) lessons in the absence of electricity.

The community, in conjunction with the school management and well-wishers, had managed to wire all the classroom blocks in readiness for the electrification, he said, adding that what remained was ZESCO power connection to the learning institution.

Mr Kaputula appealed to Government, through the district administration and area Member of Parliament (MP) Doreen Mwape, to intervene and facilitate electricity connection to the two institutions.

When contacted for a comment, Ms Mwape said she was aware of the need for electricity at the health facility and the school and that the issue would be considered when CDF was received.
