Lead ‘keep clean’ drive, youths urged
YOUTH groups in Southern Province should take a leading role in the ‘ Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy’ campaign, Scouts Association southern (ZSA) division said yesterday.
ZSA division chairperson Robby Zulu said in an interview in Livingstone that time had come for young people to be involved in matters of national interest.
Mr Zulu said for a very long time, youths in the Southern province had shunned vital activities which were meant to contribute positively to their welfare.
He said because of such attitudes, most of youths had ended up being used as tools of violence by politicians.
Speaking after conducting a cleaning exercise of selected Government structures such as the former provincial administration, Mr Zulu said the Scouts association would continue pushing for a change of mind-set among young people.
"As Scouts, we feel young people need to do something for this country and the community they live in. We have engaged our young boys and girls scouts in cleaning some selected Government buildings.
"This is a follow up to the instruction by our national patron that we should champion the keep Zambia clean and green campaign. . . In Livingstone, we are following the instruction seriously," Mr Zulu said.
He said they had cleaned up the former Cabinet Office which was dirty, we have also cleaned up the High Court and its surroundings and this is just the beginning," he said.
The scouts’ next target for cleaning would be the central hospital where they would also donate food stuffs to the children's ward.
