Smart Zambia rolls out e-system on CB
By NATION REPORTER SMART Zambia has started rollin o t the first hase o its campus area network, a paperless electronic system, in various areas of the Copperbelt.
Deputy Secretary to Cabinet and Smart Zambia national coordinator Martine Mtonga explained that the campus area network would be designated to various government institutions.
Dr Mtonga said the programme has started on the Copperbelt and that 10 locations would be connected this week.
He was speaking in Ndola on Thursday when he donated a Nissan hard-body to Copperbelt provincial Cabinet office worth $270,000 to help with the swift operations of the electronic governance system.
"When the project reaches its peak the paperless age will start between Lusaka and Ndola. This will enable our government officials to deliver uicker services to the people," he said.
He said the system would be monitored at the end of next year to quantify how much would have been saved so that the Ministry of Finance could allocate the saved funds to other needy areas.
Dr Mtonga said the system would capture the Ministry of Lands, the central administration, Ministry of Education, Agriculture Ministry, the judiciary, Health and other institutions.
Smart Zambia, he said, had already contracted two service providers to reduce down times.
He said a new team of Smart Zambia members would be deployed at the offices headed by an assistant director.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt permanent secretary Bright Nundwe commended Smart Zambia for initiatives.
Mr Nundwe said the governance system was vital as it would improve efficiency in doing business and also reduce on time.
