Chanda’s UPPZ employs 50 youths
By NATION REPORTER MORE THAN 50 youths have been employed at the block making plant set up in Lusaka’s Makeni area by the opposition United Party for a Prosperous Zambia (UPPZ) president, Charles Chanda.
Mr Chanda said in an interview that he embarked on the block making project to employ the youth and empower them through payment of salaries.
He claimed that, with initiatives like the block making scheme and its land empowerment policy, the UPPZ had become a threat to other opposition political parties which had failed to sell their manifestos to the people, but instead were busy criticizing Government without offering alternatives.
He said he had a desire to share with the common Zambians the little he had because he had a “heart for people”.
Mr Chanda said he hasland with full approval of the Ministry of Lands.
“We have employed about 50 youths to work at the block making plant in Makeni West where we had sold land to more than 2500 citizens.
Our policy is aimed at sustaining the living habits of the Zambian people, who cannot afford to buy land because it is expensive,” he said.
He said the youths employed at the block making plant were given all the necessary work suits to ensure their work environment was good.
He said his party wanted to embark on programmes aimed at uplifting the lives of people, saying once youths had skills, they would not waste their time but instead contribute to the country’s economic development.
