UPND has suffered a major setback following the resignation of its entire Nangoma executive with 560 members who have joined the Patriotic Front .
UPND Nangoma constituency chairman, Langson Nakamamba said he had ditched the opposition party because of its tribal tendencies and perpetuating anarchy which was a threat to peace and security.
Mr. Nakamamba, who was received by PF Central Province chairman Chanda Mutale, said he was attracted to join the PF because of President Edgar Lungu’s development agenda as well as intra-party democracy.
He said the defections in Nangoma was the end of the UPND in the constituency.
“Today, I officially resign from the UPND with 16 other executive members and join the Patriotic Front because of the good work of President Edgar Lungu such as infrastructure development and attractive investments in the country,” he said.
The former UPND leader prodded the PF to bring more development to the constituency so that it could have projects to point at come 2021.
He said there was need to speed up the construction of Nangoma and Shakumbila secondary schools as well as bridges and roads in the constituency.
Mr Mutale, who is PF Chitambo Member of Parliament, said in the ruling party there were no newcomers and encouraged the defectors to feel free to contest for positions in the party.
Mr Mutale challenged the UPND to go for a convention if truly its leaders were duly elected by the grassroots.
He dismissed assertions by the UPND that the PF was buying its members to join the party but instead people were attracted because of President Lungu’s vision and leadership qualities. He said doomsayers had been silenced, adding that in all parts of Zambia there was a development project taking place. Mr. Mutale urged the new comers to be loyal and disciplined.
