ZNBS houses galore in Nyimba, Chilanga
ABOUT 450 low and medium cost housing units are expected to be built within this financial year by developers to be identified by the Zambia National Building Society (ZNBS) in Nyimba and Chilanga.
The housing units, to be built within a space of three to five months, will be in the range of K118, 000 and K575,000.
According to ZNBS public relations and marketing officer, Chanda Mubanga, it would finance off-takers with mortgage while the developer would finance the project.
Mr Mubanga said in an interview that the project was targeting low and medium income earners.
“ZNBS is financing the off takers, the people that will be buying these houses. We are targeting to build as many as we can, Nyimba, we are targeting 300 units and 150 units in Chilanga within this financial year we should have a groundbreaking in these two areas,” he said.
Mr Mubanga said this project would use a Public Private Partnership.
He said ZNBS had written to many local authorities to request for land for the project and so far only Nyimba and Chilanga had responded.
“We wrote to all the local authorities to request them to provide land to ZNBS on which we are going to develop those housing units.
There are some councils that responded in good time, that is Nyimba and Chilanga.
“In Nyimba we even signed a Memorandum of Understanding and about 70 hectares of land was given along Great East Road. Drawings were done and the title is even out so we are ready to move on site with the housing projects within this financial year,” he said.
Mr Mubanga said ZNBS was evaluating the developers who had expressed interest to finance the project.
Once the evaluation is done, he said, the developer will be identified to go on site and start developing those housing units.
