LETTER TO US PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP
Dear Sir,
MR President, I wish to remind you that as a champion of mature democracy and good governance, the United States of America must live by that tag to encourage young democracies in Africa to flourish.
You will, Mr President, agree with me that every sovereign state in the world has rules and pieces of legislation that governs how its citizens must conduct themselves to keep peace and public order in check.
It is therefore irresponsible of your government to think that because you are a superpower, then every country should listen to your dictates.
You may not understand the spirit of globalization that your predecessors championed, but you can act as one of God's creation and respect human life.
One thing you ought to understand Mr President is that most African countries, particularly Zambia believe in the teaching of Christ Jesus and detest violence.
Any one in Zambia who incites people to break the law becomes an enemy of our people.
No wonder your country's machinations for regime change in Zambia have lamentably failed because the opposition leaders that your country fund encourage violence.
Yes, we have some among our people who are demon- possessed who will support your government’s threats to cut aid to our country because of a violence inciting Tendai Biti of Zimbabwe.
Mr President, I stand to be corrected but I think your government is fulfilling the biblical prophecy that in the last days, brothers will turn against brothers and kingdoms against kingdoms. How inhumane, how manipulative!
When your officials are addressing the concerns pertaining to good governance in Zimbabwe, they are saying the people of Zimbabwe are suffering, yet in their hearts of hearts they know that they are supporting the opposition leaders only.
Look Mr President, imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe will hurt the same people that your government claims to care for.
One thing we will not do Mr President as Zambia is to threaten you back.
We will leave that to Kim Jongun of North Korea but don't take advantage of our weak economy to treat us as slaves, remember our God will always be on our side.
Respect our country and we will respect yours. Of course there are a number of projects funded by the wonderful people of America and we appreciate that.
But we will not take kindly to threats by your officials in Washington.
Mr President, find time to reflect on many cruel decisions that your government has made notwithstanding the fact that leadership comes from God and you therefore try to reflect God's leadership attributes. ENOCK KAPITOLO CHULU, Lusaka.
