LWSC incompetence exposed

- By NATION REPORTER

DELAYS by the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) to restore water supply after payment of necessary bills has irked Lusaka’s Kabwata Township residents.

Some residents complained that the water utility company was taking too long to restore normal water supply after payment of water bills and reconnection fees.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, a resident, explained that when water was disconnected from her house, she immediately went to make the necessary payments and was promised someone would be sent immediately to restore water supply but in vain.

“I sent my daughter to make a follow up. She was also told that someone would be sent but no one came. Up to now we don’t have water and yet we cleared all our water bills,” she said.

Ms Chisha said that her daughter was given a number by one of the staff at Kabwata branch, claiming that someone was already in the field and would do the needful once contacted.

She however reiterated that efforts to get in touch with the person had been a dead end as the number had not been going through.

Ms Chisha appealed to LWSC to stop making residents pay the reconnection fee of K100 when the company could not deliver the necessary service.

And in a separate interview, another resident Shephard Zulu also complained of the company’s delays in restoring water supply.

“It is very unfair for someone to stay without water when they have paid. The company should have enough manpower in the field so that we are not delayed,” he said.

Mr Zulu said that the new system of e-billing was not working for him because every time water supply was disconnected, it took days for supply to be restored.
