Dilapidated roads in Chaisa irk residents

- By NATION REPORTER

LUSAKA’S Chaisa township residents have bemoaned the poor state of roads in the area.

One of the motorists, Amos Lungu said that there was need for the main road, Waleta Road and many others to be worked on.

Mr Lungu explained that Waleta Road was way economical and that working on the road would ease traffic congestion on the Great North Road.

“We have been complaining about this main road in Chaisa for a very long time. It needs to be worked on, including the others. All we get are promises year in year out and all they say is after the rains but nothing happens,” he complained.

Mr Lungu emphasised the need for the roads to be worked on before the rain season, lamenting that the roads would become impassable once the rains start.

And a Chaisa resident, who withheld her name, said that the roads in area had been in a bad state for many years.

The residents all called on authorities to quickly work on the roads, which she said were now a death trap.

And Chaisa Ward 20 councillor, Ruth Phiri explained that last year she had submitted all the roads in her ward that needed to be worked on through Member of Parliament, Jean Kapata.

Ms Phiri said that she had been waiting for the contractor to move on site.

she said that Waleta Road would be prioritised and that she was hopeful that the constructor would move on site before the rain season.
