Kazungula to have modern bus terminus
By NATION REPORTER GOVERNMENT is to construct an ultra-modern Bus Terminus at Kazungula border post at a cost of K6.9 million, says Southern Province deputy permanent secretary Kennedy Mubanga.
Mr Mubanga said that the construction of the bus station would link Kazungula border to the outside world.
Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony, Mr Mubanga said that the PF government under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu was committed to improving infrastructure development in Zambia.
He said that the construction of the modern bus station was manifestation of government's commitment to providing quality services to Zambians.
“Government is hopeful that the new facility will improve the transport system in Kazungula because of the better operating environment that has been created for bus operators and commuters,
“With a holding capacity of over 1,000 people and hosting between 65 and 75 buses per day, the bus station will act as a link connecting Kazungula to the rest of the world,” said Mr. Mubanga.
He explained that the project would comprise a bus shelter, resting bays for travellers, security system, paved surface, ablution blocks, shops, and would also cater for persons with disabilities.
“I therefore urge the local authority and the rest of the communality to guard this asset and utilize the opportunity to maximise collection of revenue for maintenance and provision of services at the facility,” he said.
Mr Mubanga has since called on the contractor Kampe Investment Limited to work hard and ensure that the project was completed within the stipulated six months.
Earlier, council chairman Eason Musokotwane said that the construction of a modern bus station was a great success story for the district as it would address all stakeholders’ concerns.
Mr. Musokotwane thanked the government for making the vision of the local authority a reality, adding that the project would improve the status of the district.
