BUS RAMS STREET VENDORS, ONE KILLED
ONE street vendor has died while five others are battling for their lives at Solwezi General Hospital after being hit by a speeding minibus.
And an angry crowd has set on fire the Rosa minibus that was involved in the accident after the driver ran away.
North Western Province Commissioner of Police Hudson Namachila confirmed the incident which occurred yesterday at Kyawama market in Solwezi around 20:30 hours.
He said the unidentified driver whilst driving a Mitsubishi Rosa minibus registration number ACX 6026 along the Independence Avenue lost control due to speeding, went off the road and hit into six pedestrians who were selling along the road.
He said the deceased, who has not yet been identified but a female believed to be in her 40s died on the spot.
"Others are Jennipher Kawangu aged 44 of Kyawama compound who sustained a suspected fractured right ankle, Edah Nfumba aged 13 a Grade 9 pupil at Roswell Mwepu Secondary School sustained a deep cut on the left thigh, William Kaoma.aged 27 also of Kyawama compound sustained deep cuts on the head while the other two are not yet unidentified because they were unconscious," Mr Namachila said.
He said the body of the deceased has been deposited in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
