WHAT A PRESIDENT!

-

UNITED STATES President Donald Trump is an enigma who defies logic. The only snag is that even the US itself is unable to defend the foul language that spews from his mouth.

For a man who is supposed to espouse the values of the free world, we find it hard to understand and believe that he represents the best that America has to offer.

Just how could the whole President of the United States be found wanting in the use of words, going to an extent of even insulting a former White House aide as a “dog.”

Mr Trump reportedly assailed Omarosa Manigault Newman in language that stood out even by his trash-talking standards, praising his chief of staff, John Kelly, “for quickly firing that dog!”

Ms Manigault Newman, was the highest ranking black official in Trump’s White House West Wing who was fired last December.

Manigault Newman’s book, “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House,” hit bookstores and digital platforms on Tuesday.

Largely self-serving, it describes the daily firefighting of life on the Trump campaign and then in the White House.

Yes, the President could have been riled by a book that she has authored after being sacked, but the world expects and demands that as leader of the “Free World,” he must measure the words that he uses.

But not Mr Trump.

President Trump, taking another swipe at his former “Apprentice” and White House aide Manigault Newman on Tuesday in especially angry terms, slammed her as a “dog” and a “crazed, crying lowlife” as her tell-all book hit the stores.

Trump had already branded “Omarosa” - as she is commonly known in America - a “lowlife” after she released a recording of her firing by chief of staff John Kelly, seemingly recorded in the White House Situation Room.

And after she released a recording of a conversation she had with Trump after her firing, he repeated called her “wacky.”

But on Tuesday, he ratcheted up the war of words - to a level of nastiness rarely seen, even from a president who has shown he does not pull punches when insulting his critics.

“When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!” Mr Trump tweeted.

His comment immediately prompted criticism on both sides of the political aisle and around the globe.

“This kind of language is unbecoming of a President of the United States. There is no excuse for it, and Republicans should not be okay with it,” said Republican Senator Jeff Flake, a frequent Trump critic.

President Trump’s language should not be surprising considering that he has a history of demeaning minorities and women.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump described Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington as “a dog.”

He has recently targeted California Representative Maxine Waters, basketball star LeBron James and TV journalist Don Lemon, all African-Americans, and has repeatedly attacked black football players for kneeling during the national anthem in social protest.

Not surprisingly, The White House has defended President Trump for the comments directed at Manigault Newman on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, we doubt whether there is anything to defend about this American president.

Remember how in January this year he referred to Haiti and African nations as “shithole countries” during a meeting with a bipartisan group of senators at the White House?

And this is a leader that some egocentric Zambians are asking to impose sanctions for alleged human rights abuses?

God forbid.
