Wait patiently, DC urges Kalomo youths

-

By NATION REPORTER YOUTHS in villages situated along the Kalomo-Dundumwezi road have been advised against going to the Boma to seek employment from the contractor working on the road.

Kalomo District Commissioner, Cosmas Chabi said the youths should instead wait in their respective locations and get employed as work progresses on the road.

Mr Chabi said in an interview that the contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation had been advised to employ local people that live along the road.

"As a way of empowering our youths in the district, we have told the contractor working on the Kalomo- Dundumwezi road to prioritise our people who live along that same road for employment...we do not want a situation where our people are left out," he said.

"Further, we have advised the youths in the villages that are along the road not to travel to Kalomo Boma to seek employment from the contractor but should instead wait and get employed as works progress on the way," said Mr Chabi.

The district commissioner said he was avoiding a situation where people travelled to the Boma to seek employment but only to find that there was nothing for them. Mr Chabi said so far from the time the contractor set up another camp in Kalomo district, a number of youths had been engaged in various capacities. He was optimistic that as construction works heightened, more than 100 youths will be employed particularly those living along the road.
