Lungu extols Mwanawasa

- By NATION REPORTER

LEVY Patrick Mwanawasa had a vision for Zambia, that it should be a just society in which the rule of law prevailed and where every citizen had equal opportunities regardless of their status, President Edgar Lungu has said.

President Lungu said the late President Mwanawasa was a true beacon of how a citizen and indeed a leader ought to be and that he had envisaged a country with abundant job opportunities for the young.

The head of state said this during the 10th memorial service for the late president at the Cathedral of Holy cross in Lusaka yesterday.

He said President Mwanawasa planted a seed of unity and harmony which has seen some members of the former ruling party MMD become PF members of parliament.

He pointed out that despite the ideals that Dr Mwanawasa propagated and strived for, Zambia was still faced with various challenges such as child marriage.

He said the country would continue remembering him because of the significant contribution that he made towards the development of Zambia. And the widow, Dr Maureen Mwanawsa described her late husband as a man who always wanted justice to prevail unconditionally among the citizens.

Dr Mwanawasa appealed to all political parties in the country to use his 10th memorial service anniversary to come together as a country and remain as a Christian nation.

She said politicians should also use his anniversary to embrace the spirit of reconciliation for the country to prosper.
