Luanshya council for quality services

- By NATION REPORTER

LUANSHYA Mayor Nathan Chanda says the local authority will ensure that services are GelivereG eIficientl\ to the residents in the mining town.

This, Mr Chanda said, would be done in conjunction with stakeholders such as those in the corporate world.

He said his management team along with workers would ensure that the negative perception about the council was changed.

This would be done by ensuring that Tuality services were availed to all the residents, particularly to the vulnerable.

Mr Chanda was speaking when he commissioned a borehole at the New Town market.

He called on residents to pay property rates and other council fees as a way of contributing towards sustaining the local authority’s service delivery programmes.

The mayor also urged traders not to relent in their payments of market levies as the council reTuired sufficient resources to provide various services.

Mr Chanda appealed to traders at New Town market to ensure that the borehole especially the hand pump and other council properties were guarded from vandalism.

Also at the commission ceremony was Mpelembe ward councillor Golden Mulenga, who is also Luanshya Deputy Mayor.

Mr Chanda said the borehole was drilled using the ward development fund.

The ward development fund is a developmental financing facility initiated by councils from locally generated resources.

The Mayor commended traders and the ward development committee for working with the local authority in coming up with developmental projects.

Mr Chanda also praised residents in New Town for participating in the `Keep Luanshya Clean` campaign, a council public cleaning programme which is done once every week on Friday.

The Mayor, councillors and some senior police officers also toured the council funded newly constructed market ablution block.

And New Town market traders’ representative Mercy Siame expressed gratitude to the council for showing commitment to improved service delivery.
