Poor roads, lack of drainages irk residents

-

By LINDA SOKO TEMBO RESIDENTS of Lusaka’s John Laing Compound are concerned with the deplorable state of roads and lack of drainages in the area.

In separate interviews, the residents feel these two developments should be treated with the urgency they deserve.

A representative of the ward development committee, Joel Simuyeba said there was need to construct good roads and a drainage system before the onset of rains.

Mr Simuyeba said government should also help in the construction of a health post and schools adding that residents in the area move long distances to access the facilities and that the nearest was Kanyama and Chawama Compound. “We usually have Àoods here during the rain season so we are promised year in and out that once the rains stop, the road and drainage construction will,” Mr Simuyeba complained.

Another resident, Amos Chilufya explained during the rain season, it was a challenge for buses to service the area because of the poor road network.

“If the roads and the drainages can be worked on before the rains, it will be good we have buses that reach this place up to Kampasa market, but during the rain season buses are not able to reach because of Àoods,” Mr Chilufya said.

Meanwhile Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Ward 11 Councillor Lackson Sakala expressed concern over the poor road network in the area.
