UPND losing grip - UNZA don
THE current exodus of UPND members, especially councillors to join the ruling party is an indication that the largest opposition political party is slowly losing ground, political analyst Alex Ng’oma has observed.
In an interview yesterday, Dr Ng’oma, a University of Zambia Political Science lecturer said UPND was losing popularity as evidenced by the mass exodus of its councillors and other senior members to PF.
Dr Ng’oma said the party leadership must be worried with the rate at which it was losing members.
He said when so many members were ditching the party, it meant that the membership had lost confidence in their leadership. He challenged the UPND top brass to take deep introspection of what they were not doing well and change for the better.
“It is extremely important for the UPND to actually this time around take stock of the things that are happening in the party. They must conduct what I would call a political environmental analysis and interpret the events taking place in the party.
“When you see a lot of people defecting from a party, it means that you as a leader you are not inspiring them. UPND is slowly losing ground countrywide and there must be an explanation to this from the leadership,” Dr Ngoma said.
Dr Ng’oma’s comment comes in the wake of the recent massive exodus of UPND councillors and other members to the ruling party.
