Erratic water supply in Chambishi bites

- By NATION REPORTER

ASERIOUS water shortage has hit Chambishi township in Kalulushi following low water volumes in the reservoirs of the Nkana Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC).

This was after a mining firm in the area decided to stop supplying water to the reservoirs.

Residents of Chambishi told the Daily Nation yesterday that they had been experiencing a serious shortage of water from last Thursday forcing NWSC to supply the commodity using a water bowser.

NWSC public relations officer Agness Simwinga confirmed that from last Thursday, Chambishi has been experiencing water shortage, but the situation was expected to normalise by today.

Ms Simwinga said NWSC was supplying water through bowsers during the time when there was no water supply in the area. "I can confirm that, in Chambishi, from last week Thursday to Saturday, we had experienced water shortage and we had to use a water bowser to supply water to cushion the impact of the shortage.

"The problems was because of low water volumes in our reservoirs, but we are confident that the situation will normalise before the end of the day,'' Ms Simwinga said.

She added that Ndeke township was also experiencing a shortage of water because of the maintenance works which were being carried out at the distribution centre.

She said old pipes were being replaced with new ones.

"For Ndeke, we had a water shortage because old pipes were being replaced by new ones. Once the priority works are completed, the area will be able to receive improved water supply,'' she said
