Milling plant creates market for 1, 000 Nakonde farmers
A MARKET for over 1, 000 maize and soya beans small scale farmers in Nakonde has been created following the maize milling and stock feed production plant which has started operating.
Muchinga Mills Limited received a K947, 770 loan from the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) for the project in the border town and is a brainchild of Webget Investments Limited.
The plant has a daily production capacity of 500 bags of breakfast and roller meal in 10kg and 25kg packaging, as well as 250 bags of stockfeed-per day in 50kg packaging.
The loan also financed procurement of a 15 tonne truck.
Commenting on the development, CEEC Director General Likando Mukumbuta said this would create a market for over 1, 000 small scale maize and soya beans farmers in the district.
Mr Mukumbuta said this type of investment formed part of the drive to develop the rural areas
He said in a statement that the investment was being fully aligned with Government’s Industrialisation and job creation strategy.
“This is how the Commission is contributing to the industrialisation of the rural areas with the full participation of the Zambian entrepreneurs,” he said.
And Muchinga Mills Director, Webster Sinyinga, emphasised the company’s commitment to producing high quality stockfeed that would help the business penetrate Northern and Central provinces, as well as cross over into neighbouring Tanzania.
