Get titles before settling on any piece of land

-

Dear Editor,

ALLOW me to comment on the 800 displaced farmers in Ndola’s Chichele area who have appealed to the government through their Member of Parliament, Dr Jonas Chanda to help them seek audience with Golden Lay Limited, an investor who has bought that piece of land they have occupied for many years.

To start with, I hope some Zambians didn’t support the United States of America over our sending back Mr Tendai Biti to Zimbabwe.

This is because Mr Donald Trump, the US president is planning to punish South Africa over the issue of appropriations of white-owned land.

I have brought in this because some Zambians want to oppose the government on anything even going to support foreign countries that plan to punish Zambia.

Now back to the point, I think that the whole Ndola land saga has been created by political compromise.

Anyone staying on any piece of land must ensure they have titles or some papers to confirm the land in question belong to them.

Otherwise people should be stopped from settling anyhow if we have to avoid problems of this nature in future.

Take that piece of land on the Kalulushi-Sabina Road bought by a Chinese national to set up a plant to treat slug from the Black Mountain slug from a Zambian.

After receiving and spending the money, the former owner of that piece of land complained that he was underpaid.

He with the support of local residents influenced the closure of the plant until the matter would be sorted out later.

After one week, the locals turned against their friend for closing the plant because their children who had been given jobs by the Chinese owner of the plant had no work and therefore no money was coming. Who’s to blame here? -
