MP stakes K50, 000 for hospital borehole

- By NATION REPORTER

NKANA Member of Parliament Alexander Chiteme will spend more than K50,000 to sink a borehole at Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTC) compound following erratic water supply in the area.

Mr Chiteme said he had decided to embark on a project in the compound after KTH management made an appeal to his office to consider putting up a borehole to improve water supply.

Mr Chiteme, who was speaking through his aide Curtis Goss at the hospital on Sunday, said he was sure that once a borehole was put up, water supply would be improved.

"We are putting up a borehole to service the hospital compound which has been experiencing erratic water supply. We have started the project and it is likely to cost K50,000.

"The project follows an appeal from the hospital management to consider putting up a borehole to improve water supply in the area,'' said Mr Chiteme, who is National Development Planning Minister.

Mr Chiteme said a number of projects had been lined up, including the construction of a clinic in Nkandabwe Township.

He said he was set to start the construction of a clinic in Nkandabwe, but the Kitwe City Council (KCC) was delaying in allocating the land where the clinic would be constructed.

"The people of Nkana constituency in collaboration with Gemcanton Mining wants to construct a clinic in Nkandabwe Township, but the problem is that the council is taking long to allocate us the piece of land where the clinic will be constructed.

"Any time, soon, we will meet the council to hear what they will say on the matter. We hope for something better when we meet,'' he said.
