Arrest Livingstone criminals, orders IG

- By NATION REPORTER

INSPECTOR General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has directed the police command in Southern Province to deal with the growing number of criminal gangs terrorising Livingstone’s Dambwa Site and Service area.

Lately, there have been complaints from residents of Dambwa Site and Service about groups of youths calling themselves ‘junkies’ that were terrorizing people.

Mr. Kanganja directed that all criminals should be brought to book soon before the situation grew out of hand.

He issued the directive when he paid a courtesy call on acting Livingstone District Commissioner Helen Mwanza yesterday.

Mr. Kanganja said that he was in the province to check on the security situation as we as roll out the direct deposit system and interact with officers.

“The purpose of my visit is to check on the security situation in the province and roll out the direct deposit system which was launched in Lusaka last year to help control corruption and also to interact with officers over the issues of discipline and integrity.

“I have received reports of rising numbers of gangs terrorising people of Dambwa Site and Service. I therefore direct the police command in Livingstone to deal with this issue before it grows out of hand,” said Mr. Kanganja.

And Mr. Kanganja explained that the direct deposit system which the Zambia Police was implementing would help remove the perception which the public had on Zambia Police of being the most corrupt in the country. Mr. Kanganja explained that the direct deposit system was effective and must be supported by all police officers in Zambia.

“I am urging all the officers involved in revenue collection to uphold high levels of integrity by banking all the money collected on behalf of the government within the stipulated time frame,” said Mr Kanganja.

He said that the aim of the Police Service was to reinforce accountability and transparency as well as lessen incidents of corrupt practices among police officers and members of the public.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kanganja has warned police officers against engaging themselves in partisan politics. He said that those that wanted to engage in politics should resign before they were booted out of the service.

Speaking at the same function, provincial commissioner of Police Bonny Kapeso praised his men for exhibiting high levels of discipline and integrity.
