Zambia Sevens attracts Sharks
SOUTH African Rugby giants Sharks will challenge for the Zambia Sevens International Rugby cham-pionship kicking off on September 1 in Lusaka.
The Kwazulu Natal-based rugby giants have been spon-sored by Proflight Zambia, the Zambian airline company through the provision of dis-counted return flights for the tournament to be hosted at the Lusaka Showgrounds.
Proflight Zambia director of Government and Industry Affairs, Captain Philip Lemba, said that the move to bring sharks to Zambia would contribute to help de-velop the standards of rugby in the country. Capt. Lemba said in a statement yesterday that Proflight was committed to supporting the growth of rugby through international competitions which featured world class teams.
“We are excited to be sponsoring the Sharks rugby academy side that will be here for the exciting rugby sevens tournament,” Lemba said.
“Rugby is a growing sport in Zambia and support by Proflight not only makes it key to developing the game, but also to helping the country become a dominant nation on the field. It will be a thrill to see our Zambia sevens team play the Sharks. This is another step in supporting the sport through international competitions with world class teams,” Lemba said.
As part of the sponsorship, Proflight was also sponsoring a game between the Sharks academy team and Baobab school set for August 31 at Baobab.
The Sharks are recognised all over the world and the team consistently plays an entertaining and exciting brand of rugby that appeals to enthusiasts across a demographic, age and sex spectrum. The Sharks will be among the teams competing in the Zambia Sevens International tournament, which has been received well by African teams and is gaining world-class recognition through its efforts to involve top class rugby teams.
