East police probe deaths of 2 school boys
POLICE have launched investigations to establish how two school boys were found dead last week in Chadiza in unclear circumstances, Eastern Province Police Commissioner Luckson Sakala has said.
Mr Sakala said even after conducting a postmortem, the possibilities of murder have been ruled out.
He explained however that the police were doing everything possible to establish the cause of their deaths.
“Even after conducting a postmortem and inspecting the bodies at the scene, there were no physical injuries on them,” said Mr Sakala.
Mr Sakala named the dead as Dalitso Banda and Venalio Phiri both aged 17 and Grade 7 pupils at Mangwe Primary School.
He explained that the youths left their homes last week Monday at about 13:00 hours for the Mkaika in Katete for Kulamba ceremony but went missing and their bodies were only found in a fish pond at Kaphale Village on Friday.
“The bodies were physically inspected by the police officers who visited the scene; no physical injuries were found on them
“Even after a postmortem was conducted according, the findings ruled out the possibility of murder,” Mr Sakala said. Mr Sakala cautioned the residents in Chadiza to desist from spreading force rumors that the youths had actually been killed in suspected ritual murders. He appealed to the residents of Chadiza to remain calm while the matter was been investigated by the police and that they should also assist the police with investigations.
