United even in elections - Lifwekelo

- By NATION REPORTER

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) members should exercise maximum restraint, tolerance and love for one another in the wake of party elections so that we remain a strong and united force in readiness for 2021, says senior member Edwin Lifwekelo.

Mr. Lifwekelo said internal elections were an opportunity to put into leadership positions mature, credible and selfless leaders who would help accelerate political and economic development. In a statement issued yesterday, he said the main focus of the party was to get to 2021 as a united and strong team under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu.

Mr. Lifwekelo expressed dismay that there were a lot of pretenders that had one foot in the PF and another in the opposition and called for self-introspection.

“We must be mindful of detractors who want to sow seeds of discord. Let us remember that the party is bigger than an individual. No one has the monopoly on the brains. The secret lies in collective responsibility,” he said.

He urged all PF members to emulate President Lungu who he said was determined to improve the welfare of all citizens regardless of ethnicity or tribe.

Mr. Lifwekelo applauded the PF for adhering to democratic tenets unlike some opposition political parties that propagated dictatorial tendencies.

PF Ward elections in Lusaka are scheduled for September 1 to 14 this year while constituency elections commence on September 15, 2018.
