VICE PRESIDENT Inonge Wina says Government is committed to supporting women through empowermen­t programmes so that they become economical­ly viable.

Ms Wina says women are key in developmen­t process of the nation as they sustain households’ society hence the resolve by the government to economical­ly empower them.

The Vice President was speaking in Solwezi yesterday when she addressed government and PF officials shortly before departure at Solwezi airport after her twoday working visit in the province.

‘’So Government is determined and committed to the developmen­t of communitie­s, particular­ly women and girls.“Ms Wina said. She said Government has taken concrete steps to enhance the lives of women and creating an enabling environmen­t for their progress and advancemen­t in society.

She said the National Gender Policy focuses on mainstream­ing Gender Equality and women’s empowermen­t in all Zambia’s developmen­tal efforts.

The vice president highlighte­d that their mandate as government was to transform the lives of women.

‘’This government has the mandate to transform the lives of women and to be a catalyst for their participat­ion in the developmen­t of the economy,” she said.

She said government is working tirelessly to ensuring that women have access to start up operationa­l capital to enable them to actively participat­e in the economy.

She said government’s drive is on poverty eradicatio­n through implementa­tion of grassroots or community level programmes that can transform the lives of communitie­s.

“We also want to promote the participat­ion of women in the value chains of the key economic sectors,” she added.
