VICE PRESIDENT Inonge Wina says Government is committed to supporting women through empowerment programmes so that they become economically viable.
Ms Wina says women are key in development process of the nation as they sustain households’ society hence the resolve by the government to economically empower them.
The Vice President was speaking in Solwezi yesterday when she addressed government and PF officials shortly before departure at Solwezi airport after her twoday working visit in the province.
‘’So Government is determined and committed to the development of communities, particularly women and girls.“Ms Wina said. She said Government has taken concrete steps to enhance the lives of women and creating an enabling environment for their progress and advancement in society.
She said the National Gender Policy focuses on mainstreaming Gender Equality and women’s empowerment in all Zambia’s developmental efforts.
The vice president highlighted that their mandate as government was to transform the lives of women.
‘’This government has the mandate to transform the lives of women and to be a catalyst for their participation in the development of the economy,” she said.
She said government is working tirelessly to ensuring that women have access to start up operational capital to enable them to actively participate in the economy.
She said government’s drive is on poverty eradication through implementation of grassroots or community level programmes that can transform the lives of communities.
“We also want to promote the participation of women in the value chains of the key economic sectors,” she added.
