- By NATION REPORTER

MORE than 150 speed cameras will soon be installed on roadsides countrywide and priority will be given to accident –prone areas, the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has said. RTSA has also revised speed limits on the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) and have installed camera warning signs. In a statement yesterday, the road agency said after consultations with the Road Development Agency (RDA) as well as road users and in exercise of powers under Section 192 of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 0f 2002 it has adjusted speed limits on the KKIA routes. RTSA said the maximum speed limit for all motor vehicles on the Airport Road heading towards the KKIA would be 80 Kilometres per hour and 100 Kilometres per hour on selected sections. “All motorists are advised to adhere to the stipulated speed limits on all roads. The agency has deployed cameras on Airport Road, Great East Road, Tokyo Road (Ring Road) Kafue Road and Mumbwa Road,” he said. The road authority said speed camera enforcement on the mentioned roads would commence on September 3, 2018. The agency has cautioned motorists that exemptions to the revised speed limits on the Airport Road would only apply in accordance with the law or under representation for emergency cases. The authority said the main aim of using roadside cameras was aimed at reducing road accidents caused by excessive speed and reckless driving.
