Over enrolling will cost you licences, training institutions warned
Come 2019 we will revoke all operation licenses for training institutions that will over enroll health students,” — Dr Mujajati.
WE will revoke operating licenses for all training institutions that will over enroll health students in 2019, Health professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) registrar Aaron Mujajati has warned.
Dr Mujajati said most institutions had a tendency of over enrolling health students which compromised the health service delivery in the country. He said health students were trained to handle lives hence there was need to ensure they were trained adequately before subjecting them to the public. Speaking during a stakeholders sensitisation meeting in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Mujajati said that after conducting a compliance monitoring exercise it was revealed that training institutions were compliant with only six programs out of 51 that were inspected. He said institutions were partially compliant in 31 programs were partially and non compliant in 14. He warned that the council would not compromise with standards in institutions providing training. “Come 2019 we will revoke all operation licenses for training institutions that will over enroll health students,” Dr Mujajati said. And HPCZ board chairperson professor Sekelani Banda has called for policy dialogue between the public and private training institutions in order to meet the demands of Health professionals of various kind in the country. Prof Banda said Zambia was had a deficit of health professionals in the health sector and there was need for more. He said Zambia was currently having 1.2 health professionals per 1000 population which illustrated that there was a need to supply more professionals. Professor Banda said public institutions alone cannot meet the public demand hence there was need for synerging between the private and public institutions.
