…..economic recovery assured as State House has shown leadership - Chanda

THE move by State House officials to adhere to austerity measures to scrap off some entitlements for senior government officials as announced by the Minister of Finance gives us confidence of quick economic recovery says, New Congress Party (NCP) President Peter Chanda.

And Mr Chanda said there was need for the country to fight for economic independence to avoid making decisions induced by economic dependence. Mr Chanda said in an interview yesterday that Zambians should be assured of quick economic recovery because State House had shown leadership in adhering to the austerity measures announced by the minister. Presidential aide for press and public relations Amos Chanda on Thursday revealed that the austerity measures were being implemented even at State House and that Presidential aides and permanent secretaries no longer had personal to holder vehicles. Mr Chanda said it was commendable that even Presidential aides had lost personal to holder vehicles and were also eager to contribute to the quick recovery of the economy. He said if Government leaders and President Lungu had exhibited leadership in adhering to the austerity measures it was unlikely that the austerity measures would fail. He said civil servants should also take responsibility and ensure that they used Government resources prudently. “As a party we are encouraged by State
