Ngabwe investment potential outlined

NGABWE has great potential for Investment in mining, tourism and agricultur­e because of its proximity to other mining towns, sunken lakes and good soils, district council chairperso­n Sitabiso Mizinga has said.

Ms Mizinga said Ngabwe, being neighbours with Kasempa, a mining town in North-western province, also had a wide range of minerals which investors could exploit. Speaking in an interview yesterday, Ms Mizinga claimed that Ngabwe district had similar minerals to those found in Kansanshi, Lumwana and Copperbelt districts but had just not yet been discovered. "Ngabwe has great potential for investment in the mining sector, being neighbours with Kasempa in North-western province, we are in the same line with the minerals that are found in Kansanshi, Lumwana and the Copperbelt," Ms Mizinga said. In the tourism sector, Ms Mizinga said Ngabwe had three sunken lakes, the Shitutuwul­wa, Chishiba chabena Mpushi and two hot springs. She said the district boosted of wildlife, water bodies such as Kafue, Luswishi and Lungu rivers and Lukanga swamps for investment in energy generation, sugar plantation­s, rice farming and aquacultur­e. Ngabwe district also had potential in agricultur­e with about three quarters of the land still unoccupied and fertile, she said. She said despite the poor rainfall in the 2017/2018 season, Ngabwe managed to produce about 22 tonnes of maize. "We have virgin land of about three quarters (of the district) which is unoccupied and with very fertile soils. This is an indication for great Investment potential," Ms Mizinga said. She said all that Ngabwe needed was a good road, communicat­ion network and adequate infrastruc­ture to attract investment and spur economic developmen­t in the district.
