Kalaba selfish, lacks leadership qualities

- By NATION REPORTER

FORMER foreign affairs minister Harry Kalaba has disqualified himself from contesting for any political office because he does not care for the wellbeing of Zambians by appealing to the international community not to come and invest in the country, a clergyman has said.

Cathedral of Miracles church bishop Naison Nyonyo said Mr Kalaba had lost direction and lacked leadership qualities because a real leader was supposed to canvass the international community to come and invest in Zambia to help the economy grow for the wellbeing of all Zambians.

Bishop Nyonyo was commenting on a report in some sections of the media quoting Mr Kalaba as urging the international community not to come to Zambia claiming that the country was a bad destination for investors.

Bishop Nyonyo said Mr Kalaba should in fact lead in enticing foreign investors to invest in the country because not a long time ago he marketed Zambia to the same international community as a worthwhile investment opportunity.

He said it was surprising that today, Mr Kalaba had u-turned and was calling on the same people he had coaxed to bring their investments into Zambia to avoid doing so.

“He should be the number one person to be talking to investors to come into this country, but right now he is just telling us that he cannot be trusted.

“A real leader has to be looking for investment to help the Zambian economy, but for him, he has completely lost direction of his vision especially that he has intentions of becoming a president of this country,” Bishop Nyonyo said.

He said the former foreign affairs minister had lost direction and was not acting out of resentment because he was the one that marketed Zambia to the international community as a worthwhile investment opportunity. Bishop Nyonyo said by discouraging foreign investors to come to Zambia, Mr Kalaba disqualified himself from contesting any public office because Zambians now knew that the did not care for their wellbeing but for his own personal benefits. He said any well-meaning politician should do anything possible to improve the lives of the Zambian people, and Mr Kalaba had lamentably failed the people as he had shown that he lacked leadership qualities.

“The man is killing his own brothers and sisters, his nephews, nieces and all other Zambians because he doesn’t want investors to come into the country.

“So what kind of leadership is he bringing to the table? What kind of nation does he want to take leadership of? He is just not serious and every Zambian knows that, he is definitely not a candidate for this country,” Bishop Nyonyo said.

He said a real leader should worry about the suffering of the people and look for somebody to bring investments into the country to reduce such sufgfering.

Bishop Nyonyo said the Bahati parliamentarian had nothing to offer the people of Zambia to help improve their lives, adding that “it is better for him not to stand for any political position, not even as a councillor”.
