Lungu donates K750, 000 to 156 churches
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has donated K750, 000 cash and income generating machinery worth over K400, 000 to various churches in Lusaka as part of a continuous project to empower the less privileged in the district.
And the Presidential Empowerment Initiative Fund (PEIF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Pastors Fellowship consisting of 156 churches across Lusaka to help the fund identify beneficiaries. Speaking at the signing ceremony, PEIF coordinator Clement Tembo called on the church to ignore doomsayers who have been criticising and downsizing the Presidential initiative. Mr Tembo said that the fund was not a political gimmick by the Head of State as portrayed by some ‘selfish’ politicians. Mr Tembo said that President Edgar Lungu had a heart for the under privileged and was committed to improving their lives. He announced that PEIF had secured K750, 000 and machinery which included incubators, cooking oil making machines and block making machines among others. Mr Tembo also urged the church in Zambia to be united and to be praying for the country’s leadership. And Pastors Fellowship chairman, Ephraim Kambanja assured that the money and machinery would be used for the intended purpose and accounted for. In a vote of thanks, Rev Wigan Mwape said that the church was delighted with the initiative and that the gesture should be rolled out to all parts of the country.
