Let’s push for electoral reforms
…crying like babies over alleged malpractices will only make PF rule forever - NAREP
OPPOSITION parties should demand for electoral reforms to address challenges in the electoral system instead of making allegations of malpractices each time they lost an election, NAREP secretary-general Ezra Ngulube has said.
Mr Ngulube said crying like babies over allegations of electoral malpractice whenever the opposition lost an election would only help the Patriotic Front (PF) to rule forever. He said in an interview that since time immemorial, opposition political parties had continued complaining about electoral malpractices but did nothing top push for reforms to seal any loopholes in the system, adding that time to act was now or never. He wondered why the opposition political parties had continued participating in the elections while they consistently complained that the electoral system was defective. Mere complaints would never solve the situation other than making them cry-babies, he added. He said it was surprising that the opposition parties only complained about election results after investing so much resources in campaigns even when they knew they would never win elections. Mr Ngulube called for unity of purpose to rectify the situation. “As opposition political parties, we have been crying too much like babies over electoral malpractice which we have been experiencing since time immemorial. Since 2016, the biggest opposition political party has been crying foul with regard to the process and outcome of the election and so, at the end of the day, why should we continue participating in elections where we know that the outcome won’t serve our interest? “Why can’t we demand for electoral reforms so that we can start participating in elections where we have confidence in them? Why participate in a system which we know will not produce results which we desire? So, as opposition, we have a problem,” Mr. Ngulube said. He called for concented efforts among political players to overcome the electoral challenges they had been talking about or they should forget about removing the PF from power.
