Take leading role in developing Zambia - ZNS told

THE Zambia National Service should take a leading role in transformi­ng the country’s economy through its agricultur­al programmes, Minister of Defence, Davies Chama has said.

Mr Chama said Government was in a hurry to effect the developmen­tal programs and ZNS role was vital in achieving that goal. He was speaking during the pass out parade for 420 ZNS recruits for 2017 intake at Kabwe training school yesterday. He said ZNS has the ability to lead the nation to prosperity through its agricultur­al activities. The minister said the country is endowed with so much land that if fully utilized could feed the whole World. “ZNS is a vital institutio­n that is well positioned to help realise the prosperity ambitions harboured by the citizens of this country,” said Mr Chama. He stressed the need for the defence force to play a leading role in steering the country’s economy to prosperity through the nation’s diversific­ation agenda that seeks to lift agricultur­e as the main economic driver. Speaking earlier, ZNS commandant, Lieutenant-General Nathan Mulenga warned service men to desist from brutalisin­g civilians saying he will not hesitant to show them a red card. Lt-Gen Mulenga said civilians should be free to run to them and draw comfort on safety and not the opposite.
