Kabulonga Lodge not security risk to State House

- By SIMON MUNTEMBA

THE Kabulonga Lodge under construction will not compromise security at the Presidential citadel as it is far away from State House, Estim construction site manager Barnabas Zulu has said. Mr Zulu whose firm was contracted to build the lodge which has reportedly raised security eyebrows told the Daily Nation that those claiming the proposed lodge would compromise the security of the President were being economical with the truth. “As you can see, this building is far away from State House. Even Kabulonga round about is more than 400 metres from here. “And even when you stand from the roof of this building, you can’t see even the wall fence of State House,” Mr Zulu said. Mr Zulu, who took the Daily Nation crew to the site, said he was shocked with assertions that the project, a three-storey lodge, was built adjacent to State House. The lodge is some distance from the round about that connects Kabulonga to the Lusaka Golf Club, situated opposite State House. “You cannot see State House even when you stand on top of the third floor which is the final storey,” Zulu said. From the top of the three storey building, it was impossible to see State House buildings or even the wall fence because of the tall trees obscuring the view. Mr Zulu also expressed shock that the three-storey structure was being compared to Lusaka’s Findeco House, a 23 storey building and one of the tallest buildings in Zambia. The structure on Kabulonga Road, Plot D2-F377A was previously owned by Captain Austin Chewe who sold it to the current developer. According to the plans, the building is meant to house an eleven room lodge in addition to other facilities including a restaurant, gym and a car park. He challenged those fabricating falsehoods to go and check out the building and counter check their facts.
