Village headman murdered for allegedly practicing witchcraft

A Village headman, suspected of practising witchcraft has been hacked to pieces in Mafinga District by unknown people who way laid him at his second wife’s place.

Muchinga Province Assistant Police Commissioner Lucky Munkondya who identified the victim as Wilson Nga’mbi 45, said the incident happened on Saturday around between 23:00 and 00:00 hours. ‘‘We received a report from Ng'ambi Geoffrey aged 35 years of Dambo Village in Chief Mwene Chifungwe’s area of District Mafinga who reported that Wilson Ng'ambi aged 45 years who is also Village Headman Bwana Dambo had been brutally murdered by some unknown persons,’’ Ms Munkondya said Ms Munkondya said the victim was hacked to death using machetes whilst sleeping with his second wife in Wiya village. ‘‘Facts are that the victim had just returned from attending a meeting at Bwana Mwenewiya palace and he decided to spend a night at the house of his second wife, Alice Ng'ambi, aged 45 of Dambo Village and whilst he was asleep with his wife unknown persons hacked him to death,’’ she said. Ms Munkondya said machetes are believed to have been used in the act. She said the Police visited the scene of crime and found the body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the back of the head, a severely fractured left elbow and cuts on both legs. She explained that the officers could not collect the body of the deceased for post-mortem because of the distance from the scene to the Police Station which is approximately 70km. She said the victim was suspected of practicing witchcraft and that no arrest has been made yet.
