SUNDAY CHANDA READY TO FACE HH IN DEBATE
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) media director, Sunday Chanda has accepted a challenge to debate with UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to disprove the latter’s assertions that he was too cowardly to face him. “I have officially accepted his challenge so we can put the ‘Dutch Courage’ to the test,” Mr Chanda said in reaction to a challenge from Mr Hichilema. The UPND leader issued the challenge when he featured on a Radio Phoenix live programme ‘Let the People Talk’, on which Mr Chanda phoned in to pose a question. Though the UPND leader did not answer Mr Chanda’s question, he said, “Sunday Chanda will run away from this country when UPND forms Government in 2021 for insulting me”. This was after Mr Chanda asked Mr Hichilema how borrowing for infrastructure development, such as the construction of hospitals, universities, roads and investment in energy amounted to "borrowing for consumption" as he had continuously alleged on the programme. But in his angry response, Mr Hichilema accused Mr Chanda, of insulting him continuously and challenged him to a debate if he needed answers. “I am impressed that Sunday Chanda has courage to ask me questions. I am very impressed with his “Dutch courage”. This means you give yourself courage which you don’t have, yet you are a coward. Sunday Chanda insults me every single week, his job is to insult HH and that is what I call cowardice. “Sunday Chanda you are a coward, confront me, meet me, talk to me and let’s debate facts. You know that you cannot even stand one minute to debate facts with me and you know that, you are hiding behind the PF,” Mr Hichilema said. He further warned Mr Chanda that he would run away from Zambia when UPND form Government in 2021 for insulting him. “Sunday is a young man who is messing himself up, in a manner that when the PF is out of office, he’ll probably run away from this country. But he should learn a lesson from a few people that were doing this to late President Michael Sata. People like Chanda Chimba III (late) who was running Stand up Zambia newspaper,” he said. Mr Hichilema also accused the PF Government of theft and claimed that no roads had been built by the ruling party. He said all roads were constructed by the UNIP government and PF should not take credit for infrastructure development. He said the only road which the PF attempted to construct was the Leopards Hill- Chirundu, which he (Hichilema) said was a failed project. “Today you are saying PF has constructed more infrastructure and roads than UNIP and MMD together, what a lie, what new roads have they constructed? They’ve only repaired roads, all these roads were constructed by Kaunda, “The only road they wanted to construct is Leopard HillChirundu Road, has that road been completed? That is the only new road they tried to do. They are working on Kaunda’s infrastructure who for 27 years borrowed far much less of what they have borrowed,” Mr Hichilema said.
