Now Tayali sues Kambwili for defamation
CHILUFYA Tayali has counter sued Chishimba Kambwili for defamation of character in the Lusaka High Court demanding a public retraction and apology for allegedly calling him a liar.
Initially, Mr Kambwili dragged Mr Tayali to court for allegedly defaming him after he called him an opportunist who had amassed wealth and registered his company Mwamona (ngineering Investment’ through fraudulent means. Mr Kambwili is claiming damages for mental anguish and strain arising from the alleged malicious words alleged to have been uttered during a press conference on 2ctober . He also wants compensatory damages, punitive damages for alleged defamation and a public retraction and apology to his satisfaction in respect of all the defamatory utterances and libellous publication attributed to him as a result of the press conference and Mr Tayali’s Facebook page. But Mr Tayali in his defence and counter claim stated that Mr Kambwili also published defamatory words against him on Prime Television on 2ctober . He claimed that the defamatory words were that, “We have evidence that Chilufya Tayali was paid K20, 000 by State House Political advisor Kaizer Zulu to scandalize me. +e used K , to hold a press conference and pocketed , ”. Mr Tayali said the alleged defamatory words were understood to mean that he was not to be trusted and what he said had no merit. “I am an aspiring presidential candidate and the words Mr Kambwili uttered have caused destruction to my political party, public and private life as I am a hardworking, well respected and law abiding citizen,” Mr Tayali said. He now wants exemplary and punitive damages for defamation including compensatory damages. Mr Tayali further wants interest, cost and any other relief that the court may deem fit. +e however, admitted uttering the words Mr Kambwili is complaining about but that he has since lodged a criminal complaint concerning the same and the matter is in the subordinate court.
