Mwenya Musenge faces revolt

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

Mr. Musenge has had a bad working relationship with most party members close to Mr. Kambwili and that the standoff was the main reason that instigated the urgent meeting on Saturday.

THE National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed lawyer and former Ministry of Justice permanent secretary, Joseph Akafumba, as its new vice president as discontent party members towards secretary general Mwenya Musenge mounts. Mr. Akafumba, who was appointed by NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili, had his appointment approved during an urgent central committee meeting on Saturday in Luanshya at which the main agenda was to deal with Mr. Musenge who is said to have fallen off the pecking order with Mr. Kambwili for bulldozing party members. NDC national chairperson for media and member of the central committee, Misheck Moyo who was also appointed acting party spokesperson, said Mr. Akafumba will also double as chairperson for legal affairs of the party. Other appointments saw Saboi Imboela, who is also the chairperson for gender, being appointed as national chairperson for media, while chairperson in charge of finance Lombani Musichili has been moved to Local Government. “The NDC held an urgent central committee meeting today (Saturday) were salient issues where discussed. Veteran lawyer and former justice permanent secretary Joseph Akafumba is the new vice president for the opposition NDC. Mr. Akafumba’s appointment has been approved by the central committee of the party. Mr. Akafumba will also double as chairperson for legal for the party. “The NDC has appointed party chairperson in charge of Media Misheck Moyo as party acting spokesperson. Mr. Moyo will be deputized by Saboi Imboela, the chairperson for gender. NDC chairperson in charge of finance Lombani Musichili has been moved to Local Government. The changes are with immediate effect,” Mr. Moyo said. Meanwhile, an impeccable source who was part of the deliberations said Mr. Musenge was asked to apologise to members in the party whom he may have “stepped on their toes” through his bulldozing antics as calls for his blood have allegedly heightened.
