Jailing of Chadiza fertiliser thief cheers Neria

NERIA Investment­s Limited has welcomed the jailing of its Chadiza depot manager Jerome Chisanga to four years with hard labour for stealing fertiliser worth K283, 295.00 The firm’s general manager Mr Martin Chaikatish­a said the company was losing colossal sums of money through thefts of fertiliser therefore the conviction and jailing of Chisanga had set a precedence to other wouldbe offenders. Last week Chadiza Magistrate Fred Musaka jailed Chisanga,36, for stealing 970 by 50 kg bags of urea fertilizer and 179 by 50 kg bags of Compound D fertiliser valued at K283, 295.00 In an interview with Daily Nation, Chaikatish­a extolled the court for executing justice and warned that the company would not hesitate to take action against anyone found wanting. Mr Chaikatish­a said the sentence should serve as a warning to all other depot managers to refrain from such activities. “The company was losing a lot of money through such thefts and that the conviction and jailing of Chisanga in Chadiza has set precedence to other wouldbe offenders,” said Mr Chaikatish­a. Chisanga pleaded with the court to exercise lenience on him because he was a first offender and that he was married with one child and was also taking care of a niece who would all suffer if he was sent to prison. Particular­s of the offence are that between January 10th and 18th, 2018; Chisanga Being a deport manager for Neria’s Investment stationed at Chadiza office did steal 970 by 50 kg bags of urea fertiliser and 179 by 50 kg bags of Compound D fertilizer the property of Neria’s Investment all valued at K283, 295.
