CHIEF Kanongesha’s son has dispelled claims that his father was a member of Harry Kalaba’s Democratic Party (DP). Mulumbi Sweta said yesterday that his father, Senior Chief Kanongesha of the Lunda speaking people of Mwinilunga district had nothing to do with politics. His reaction follows allegations by some people in the district that the traditional leader was a member of the opposition party run by Bahati Member of Parliament, Mr Kalaba. He emphasized that his father supports the government of the day contrary to allegations leveled against him. ¶’$t no time has my father supported the opposition political party including the newly formed Democratic Party, but him and the entire chiefdom has always supported the government of the day,’’ he said. He said his father had always been in support of the Patriotic Front (PF) government owing to the massive development the chiefdom and the district at large had experienced. He warned that those dragging the name of the traditional leader into politics should stop. ¶’%ecause whoever will be found spreading these lies risk being sued for tarnishing the name of the traditional leader,’’ he said.
