Conmen swindle teachers
Unscrupulous persons purporting to be Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) officals have been going round the country collecting money from unsuspecting teachers for registration fees, the Council has revealed.
The fake TCZ officials have been going round the country demanding payment of the Teacher Registration and Practicing Certificates fees from unsuspecting teachers through phone calls. This came to light when some teachers reported the matter to TCZ secretariat in Lusaka after paying the said fee without being issued with receipts. TCZ spokesperson Ngoza Malonga told the Daily Nation yesterday that one of suspect who collected about K250, 000 from unsuspecting teachers was nabbed and that investigations have been instituted. Ms Malonga who regretted the development could however not give full details of the suspect for fear of jeopardizing investigations. She urged members of the general public to be weary of persons purporting to be TCZ inspections officers, saying there was no agent allowed to receive hard cash from clients. “It has been noted with regret that some unscrupulous persons are going round the Country impersonating TCZ officers demanding payment of the said fees through phone calls. “Please be informed that, TCZ has no agents and does not receive hard cash from clients. Fees for Teacher Registration and Practicing Certificates are paid directly into bank accounts and NOT through mobile cash transfers,” Ms Malonga said. Ms Malonga advised members of the public to ensure that any payments that need to be made to TCZ are done through the officially advised channels.
