UNDP dragged to court over US$68, 000 payment
THE United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been dragged to court by Cubic Innovations limited demanding over US$68,000 balance for supply of equipment. This is according to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, by Cubic Innovations, a company incorporated under the Companies Act and is in the business of information technology and procurement. In April last year, Cubic Innovations, being a supplier to UNDP, obtained an order number ZMB10, 0000017226 worth US$99,354 from the international agency. In September last year, UNDP made a US$30,792.00 to Cubic Innovations’ Atlas Mara Bank account number 0330409926014 as advised by the company. “The balance US$68,562.00 was not effected as there were two items that had not been supplied on the order,” read the claim. In March this year, Cubic Innovations managed to supply the two remaining items on the order. Cubic Innovations made several demands for payment of the US$68,562 balance from UNDP but to no avail. “After several requests, Cubic Innovations was informed that payment had been made in December 2017,” the claim reads. On further inquiry, Cubic Innovations learnt that a company called Gear equipment Limited T/A Cubic Innovations had been paid the US$68,562 through a different account and bank. “The plaintiff [Cubic Innovations] had not advised UNDP to effect payment to a different beneficiary, or different account,” read part of the claim. Cubic Innovations now claims UNDP had refused and neglected to pay the US$68,562 it owes despite several demands and reminders to do so.
