Man robs woman using hammer
A LUSAKA man has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on one count of aggravated robbery while armed with a hammer. Before Chief Resident Magistrate Kenneth Mulife was Bryan Jere who is accused of robbing Charity Sibalwa of her cell phone, plasma television, and other valuables on October 24, 2018. Jere, who gave his occupation as contractor, said he understood the charge after which Mr. Mulife told him that he will only take plea in the High Court which tries such cases. “You will be appearing here for mention as I await the certificate of committal from the DPP. Once I receive the instructions I will commit you to the High Court for a summary trial,” Mr. Mulife said. In the same court, five drivers appeared for the same offence after allegedly robbing a shopkeeper of over K2, 000 cash, airtime scratch cards, and assorted groceries all valued at K4,900 while armed with a pistol. Before the court were Enoch Phiri, 48, of Lilanda Township, Samson Banda, 40, of Mumbwa, Stephen Tembo, 40, of Desai Compound, Michelo Muntanga, 34, of Barlastone, and Gift Muntanga, 24, a taxi driver of Makeni. The five men are accused of robbing Mikey Miyambo at gun point on October 12, 2018. Mr. Mulife has since granted Phiri, Banda, and Michelo Muntanga an application to seek medical attention after complaining that they were allegedly badly beaten by police officers after they were apprehended. The case has since been adjourned to November 19, 2018 for mention pending instructions from the DPP.
