Bus drivers reject K500 logistics fee
“The Road Transport and Safety Agency has introduced an additional and controversial requirement compelling any one intending to renew their Road Service Licence to pay fees to the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Zambia and a membership fee to the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia,” Mr. Mwila said.
THE Bus and Taxi Drivers Association of Zambia has strongly objected to the K500 fee being demanded by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) from public service vehicle drivers before renewing the 2019 Road Service License. Association president Tresford Mwila has questioned what law the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and the Road Transport and Safety Agency were using to impose another fee as compliance to obtain a road service licence from RTSA. “The Road Transport and Transport Agency has introduced an additional requirement compelling any one intending to renew their Road Service Licence to pay fees to the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Zambia and a membership fee to the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia,” Mr. Mwila said. He said a public passenger transport operator or driver operator does not qualify to the membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) as the CILT Act Bo.4 OF 2004 part 1, a logisticians is a person that has undertaken a course of study to become a logistician. Mr Mwila said RTSA and CILT had no legal backing to compel the drivers to pay an additional fee before renewal of Road Service License. Mr Mwila said the association will take legal action against RTSA and CILT if CILT does not refund the drivers who unwillingly paid fees for the renewal of their service license.
