Kambwili’s fate to be known soon - PF
THE Patriotic Front is not worried over embattled Roan Constituency Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili’s justification as to why he is still clinging on to the Roan seat despite his expulsion from the party. PF deputy secretary-general Mumbi Phiri said Mr. Kambwili could say anything he wished in justifying his clinging on to the PF seat but that he should take into consideration the constitution which was the supreme law of the land. “We have already done the needful and we know Mr Kambwili is not with us, hence, that’s why when the case was thrown out, we wrote to Speaker and we are waiting for the judiciary to guide us,” she said Ms. Phiri said the PF would therefore, await the interpretation of the constitution by legal experts on whether a person could hold on to a seat of a political party that sponsored him, while leading another political party of his own. “I’m sure they (courts) are hearing what Mr Kambwili is saying, so the jurisdiction is really up-to the judiciary to guide if by our new amended constitution such a thing is allowed to cling on to a party which sponsored you while you are heading another political party,”she said. Last week, Mr. Kambwili said he will not resign as Member of Parliament for Roan after his expulsion from the PF because he wanted to avoid a by election which cost the treasury a lot of money. Mr. Kambwili boasted that he was no longer a member of the PF but insisted he would not give up his parliamentary seat that easily. But before Mr. Kambwili’s application to stay the execution after his case was thrown out in court, the PF wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly to declare the Roan parliamentary seat vacant and call for the holding of a by election.
